Prior to the pandemic, the world was facing a learning crisis. 90% of children in low-income countries could not read and understand a simple story by their 10th birthday. This included the nearly 260 million children who were out of school. COVID-19 has only exacerbated these challenges.
This high-level side-event co-hosted by Save the Children and ONE on the eve of the summit will bring together governments, civil society partners, and young people to examine the impact of the pandemic on learning, good practice in realising quality foundational learning outcomes, and why addressing the global education financing gap is key to tackling the learning crisis and building forward better.
