Closing date: 20 April 2026  Job Description

UKFIET – The Education and Development Forum – is seeking to appoint a new Trustee Treasurer to join our Board.

UKFIET is a UK-based charity that works to improve education and development worldwide through research, knowledge sharing and collaboration. Our trustees provide strategic oversight and governance for the organisation and play an important role in supporting UKFIET’s mission and activities.

This opportunity has arisen as the current Treasurer comes to the end of their term. We are looking for an individual with strong financial expertise who can support the Board in maintaining effective financial oversight and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

The role of Honorary Treasurer

The Treasurer is a trustee of the organisation and works closely with the Chair, trustees and UKFIET staff . While education is a fundamental human right, for many learners the path to achieving it requires navigating a complex web of political, social, and cultural factors. In many parts of the world, continuing gender discrimination, climate-induced displacement, household poverty and economic instability mean that millions are still denied the chance to learn. Our members work at the heart of these issues, while UKFIET’s primary value lies in its ability to mobilize knowledge and support its community. As our Treasurer, you will not be simply overseeing a balance sheet; you will be contributing important financial stewardship to an organisation works to advance global education and ensure that the most marginalized learners are no longer left behind.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic oversight of UKFIET’s finances
  • Supporting the Board in reviewing budgets, accounts and financial planning
  • Ensuring appropriate financial controls and reporting processes are in place
  • Advising the Board on financial sustainability and income diversification
  • Working with staff and auditors in relation to financial reporting and compliance
  • Contributing to wider strategic discussions as a member of the Board of Trustees

The Treasurer does not manage day-to-day finances, which are handled by staff and professional advisors, but provides governance and scrutiny on behalf of the Board.

Skills and experience

We are particularly interested in applicants who bring:

  • Experience in financial management, accounting or financial governance
  • An understanding of charity finance and trustee responsibilities (desirable but not essential)
  • The ability to interpret financial reports and provide strategic financial oversight, and
  • A commitment to the mission and values of UKFIET.

Applications from individuals with experience in international education, development or related sectors are particularly welcome.

Trustees appointed are not required to be from organisations which are members of UKFIET. We are keen to recruit people who are committed to global education equity, promoting diversity of perspectives, knowledge, and partnerships.

Diversity and representation

We are committed to ensuring that our trustees are representative of the constituencies we serve and bring a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives in international education and development.

We are keen to strengthen the diversity of our Board, including in relation to ethnicity, gender, age and other protected characteristics, and we warmly encourage applications from under-represented groups.

Application process

Interested candidates are asked to submit:

  • a CV, and
  • a 1-page expression of interest outlining the relevant skills and experience they would bring to the role.

Please send applications to Sarah Jeffery, Programme Manager (s.jeffery@ukfiet.org) by 20 April 2026.

If you would like an informal conversation before applying, please contact Sarah Jeffery who can arrange a discussion with the Chair of Trustees.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to speak with members of the Board, and the final appointment will be ratified following the meeting.
