Closing date: 20 April 2026 Job Description
UKFIET – The Education and Development Forum – is seeking to appoint up to three new Trustees to join our Board.
UKFIET is a UK-based charity dedicated to improving education and development worldwide. Through conferences, publications, partnerships and knowledge exchange, we bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers and organisations working across the international education sector.
We would like one trustee to start immediately and two more to take up the positions in September 2026, when current trustees come to the end of their terms.
The role
Trustees play a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of UKFIET. They work collectively to ensure that the organisation:
- delivers on its charitable objectives
- remains financially sustainable
- operates in line with legal and regulatory requirements, and
- continues to serve and engage the international education community.
Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings, contribute to strategic discussions and occasionally support working groups or committees.
Skills and experience we are particularly seeking
UKFIET benefits from a Board that reflects the diversity of the international education sector, including academia, policy, research and programme implementation.
Following a recent skills audit of the Board, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Charity governance and legal expertise, particularly UK charity law and risk management
- Digital strategy and technology, including digital engagement, data management, or cyber security
- Strategic communications and marketing, including strengthening organisational visibility and outreach
- Human resources and organisational development, including HR governance and safeguarding, and
- Income generation and fundraising, including partnerships with donors and philanthropic organisations.
We are also keen to hear from applicants who bring new perspectives from across the international education and development sector, including practitioners, policymakers and early-career leaders.
Trustees appointed are not required to be from organisations which are members of UKFIET. We are keen to recruit people who are committed to global education equity, promoting diversity of perspectives, knowledge structures, and partnerships diversity and representation
UKFIET is committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We strongly encourage applications from individuals from under-represented groups, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds, younger professionals and those based outside traditional career pathways.
All trustees are expected to have an interest in the work of UKFIET and some familiarity with the field of education and international development.
Application process
Interested candidates are asked to submit:
- a CV, and
- a 1-page expression of interest outlining the skills and experience they would bring to the Board.
Please send applications to Sarah Jeffery, Programme Manager (s.jeffery@ukfiet.org) by 20 April 2026, indicating your preferred start date.
If you would like an informal conversation before applying, please contact Sarah Jeffery who can arrange a discussion with the Chair of Trustees.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to speak with members of the Board, and final appointments will be ratified following the meeting.
