In Commemoration of World Refugee Day, the Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) and the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) invite you to join a webinar.

Over 650,000 children and youth in Gaza have had their education disrupted. More than 90% of educational infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. Many displaced children are learning in makeshift tents, or have no access to education at all. Even if education does resume, children and youth in Gaza will still experience cumulative learning loss of up to six years. This situation poses a significant risk of leaving an entire generation of children behind.

This webinar will explore the challenging realities faced by learners and educators in Gaza, highlighting the severe disruptions to education caused by the ongoing conflict and forced displacement. Panellists will discuss the role of the international community in upholding the right to education in conflict-affected settings, and will propose actions needed to protect and restore education for Gaza’s children.

Panellists:

  • Julia Dicum: UNRWA Education Director
  • Refaat Sabah: Director, Global Campaign for Education
  • Baha Shatali: Education sub-Cluster Coordinator, Gaza
  • Saleh El Balawi: Palestinian Education Researcher, Gaza
  • Frosse Dabit: Senior Education Programme Specialist, UNRWA HQ
  • Mezna Qato Director, Margaret Anstee Centre for Global Studies
  • Ingrid Lewis: Director, Enabling Education Network (EENET)
