‘Lost’ generation of Gazan children at risk of a decade without education, Cambridge study finds

This new report provides a comprehensive analysis of the effects on education due to the war on Gaza, and the escalation of militarised operations by Israeli forces and settler attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The research describes how war, violence, hunger and trauma have eradicated any sense of normality for Palestinian children and young people, undermining the right to their education. It also shows the steadfastness of Palestinian teachers who are making every effort to continue education, despite the effects on their own wellbeing.

The research calculates the extent of learning loss, and the cost of restoring the teaching workforce for Palestine, coupled with the support needed for post-war learning recovery.

The study stresses an urgent need for international funding and action, while ensuring Palestinians lead the recovery and reconstruction of their education system.

Event organised by the Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre, Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge, and the Centre for Lebanese Studies.
