Figured Worlds: Literacy practices in a rural Malawi Ahmmardouh Maya (University of East Anglia) will lead this discussion about literacy in a village community in Malawi. In preparation, you may like to read about Ahmmardou’s presentation at UKFIET last September.
Lend me your Ears: When and why adults read aloud Sam Duncan (UCL institute of Education) will tell us about the Reading Aloud in Britain Today (RABiT) project, which considers whether, when, why and how adults read aloud. After introducing the project, she will argue that we may need to expand notions of ‘reading’ to better include the diversity of contemporary practices.
Please note that the double bill at 3pm will be preceded by the BALID AGM at 2pm, which you are welcome to attend. Both events take place at Mary Sumner House, 24 Tufton St, London SW1P 3RB – about 10 minutes’ walk from Westminster and St James Park stations, 20 minutes from Victoria.
