Inclusive learning environments at all levels of education are among the most effective tools to combat discriminatory attitudes and gender bias, foster welcoming communities, achieve education for all, and ultimately build an inclusive society.

Teachers with disabilities play a vital role in shaping inclusive classrooms. By bringing unique perspectives and fostering diverse learning environments, they enrich the learning process and serve as powerful role models for inclusion. Despite their importance, they often face significant barriers to full participation and recognition within education systems. The UNESCO World Summit on Teachers, held in August 2025 in Santiago de Chile, reaffirmed the global commitment to support all teachers, including those with disabilities. Furthermore, the new UNESCO Disability Inclusion Strategy (2026-2029) encourages the development of policies aimed at supporting teachers with disabilities to enter, remain and thrive in the system.

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, UNESCO and the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 (TTF) will convene an online dialogue to highlight the contributions, challenges, and empowerment strategies of teachers with disabilities.

This event will:

  • Showcase the experiences and contributions of teachers with disabilities in fostering inclusive classrooms.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing and dialogue on best practices, challenges, and innovative strategies for inclusive education.
  • Empower and amplify the voices of teachers with disabilities to influence educational policy and practice.
