About the Webinar

The polysemic concept of ‘evidence’ is omnipresent in international development and comparative education. A lot has been said on ‘what works’ (as opposed to why, how, where and when), or which policy is a ‘smart buy’, but there is little agreement on what ‘evidence’ actually means, and how it can contribute to decision-making in educational planning and management.

This talk will contrast evidence-based and evidence-informed practices, and review a few epistemic biases that subsist in the field of educational planning and management. Developed as a response to the limited access of planners and managers to research findings, the IIEP Education Policy Toolbox is designed to bridge the gap between those who publish evidence and those who wish to use it for policy design.

The Policy Toolbox is a collection of more than 900 open access resources, summarized and organized in thematic areas of constraint in education systems, to provide educational planning professional with policy options that have been researched and reviewed.

The webinar will provide sufficient time for group discussion. Country participants are invited to share their own experience on the webinar’s topic.
