At the CSW67 (2023) sixty-seventh session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the Centre for the Study of Global Development will focus on the importance of actively engaging rural women and girls in research. It will bring together two aspects of the ‘agreed conclusions’ of the Review Theme (Challenges and opportunities for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls):

  1. Strengthening data collection, analysis and dissemination.
  2. Targeting the collective voice, leadership and decision-making of rural women and girls.

The Centre for the Study of Global Development (Open University UK) will present case studies and argue for actively engaging rural women and girls in research processes to strengthen the evidence base and meaningfully inform policy.

What these case studies suggest for future research design which could empower rural women and girls will be considered.
