BAICE warmly invites applications for the role of Student Representative. This role offers doctoral research students based in UK institutions an opportunity to contribute to the work of BAICE, represent the views of student members, and play an active role in supporting and shaping BAICE’s student community.

Role and responsibilities

The commitment involves:

  • BAICE Student Reps are members of the BAICE Executive Committee and have full Executive voting rights 
  • Attending three Executive Committee meetings each year and the BAICE AGM (held at either the BAICE or UKFIET conference)
  • Organisation of the BAICE Early Career Researchers’ events
  • Handling inquiries from BAICE student members and representing their needs to the Executive Committee
  • Supporting communication and engagement with student members across BAICE activities and events

Person specification

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Confidence in using digital tools and online platforms (tech-savvy)
  • A willingness to do things differently and to push boundaries, recognising the important role students play in driving change
  • The ability to draw on their networks to contribute to events and initiatives
  • A commitment to serve for a two-year term

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be current doctoral students (first- or second year – or part-time equivalent) at a UK institution, with an interest in comparative and international education.
  • Student Representatives must maintain their membership of the Association for the duration of their term. If they haven’t joined, they must be willing to become a member.

  • The role is voluntary, but it offers valuable experience in academic service, leadership, and networking within the BAICE community
  • Student Rep attendance at the BAICE conference is fully funded by BAICE. Student Rep attendance at the UKFIET conference is partially funded by BAICE
  • Travel and subsistence to support attendance at BAICE events will be reimbursed
