SUMMARY:Webinar: Literacy and Women’s Rights
DESCRIPTION:9 September 2024\, 14:00 - 15:30\n770 million adults have never
  learned to read and write. Two thirds of them are women. Why are so many 
 women and girls still denied an education? How can literacy contribute to 
 women's empowerment? To mark International Literacy Day 2024 ALEF is proud
  to host a forum on Literacy and Women’s Rights featuring contribution

 Rafat Nabi is a Team Leader of the World Bank funded "Select" educational 
 programme in Sindh\, Pakistan\, and academic visitor at Lancaster Universi
 ty. She has previously worked as Director of Education\, Aga Khan Foundati
 on (Afghanistan) and Senior Advisor to the Swedish Committee for Afghanist
 an and Save the Children (Afghanistan). Her forthcoming book encapsulates 
 a decade of hands-on experience in both formal and non-formal education in
  remote and challenging regions.\nBARBARA TRUDELL\nBarbara Trudell is a se
 nior consultant in the use of African languages for learning\; she current
 ly works for SIL Africa Learning &amp\; Development. Barbara lived and wor
 ked in Africa for 30 years\, and currently resides in the United States. S
 he is a member of ALEF's advisory board.\nKEZABU RESTY\nKezabu Resty is ex
 ecutive director of the Ugandan NGO Change African Child International\, w
 hich works to empower girls and women through education. For the last ten 
 years CACI have partnered with ALEF to run literacy empowerment groups for
  unschooled adults living in poverty in Kampala and Entebbe.\nALEF\, Adult
  Learning and Empowerment Facilitators is an NGO based in Sweden. We suppo
 rt non-formal mother tongue education for unschooled adults living in extr
