SUMMARY:UCL ERICC Webinar Series: Teacher Management in Conflict & Protract
 ed Crisis
DESCRIPTION:25 November\, 12:00 GMT\nINEE\, UCL\, and the ERICC consortium
invite you to a webinar on Teacher Management in Conflict and Protracted C
risis.\nREGISTER HERE\nThis webinar is part of a series hosted by UCL Inst
itute of Education\, which aims to promote dialogue and synergy between em
erging findings from the Education Research in Conflict and Protracted Cri
sis (ERICC) programme and the work of scholars and practitioners in the fi
eld.\nThis second webinar brings together Dr. Danielle Falk (International
Rescue Committee)\, Dr. Mary Mendenhall (Teachers College\, Columbia Univ
ersity)\, and Mading Peter Angong (Education Action in Crisis) to share th
eir ongoing research with teachers working amidst conflict\, crisis\, and

CL Institute of Education).\nThe webinar focuses on key challenges and opp
ortunities for teacher management in conflict and protracted crisis settin
gs\, recognising that teachers are at the centre of children and young peo
ple’s educational experiences\, especially in contexts affected by confl
ict and crisis where they may be the only resource amidst educational scar
city (Mendenhall et al.\, 2019). Yet\, despite their central role\, teache
rs face persistent challenges in their work\, including irrelevant and ina
dequate professional development\, difficult working conditions\, insuffic
ient compensation and benefits\, limited to no career progression opportun
ities\, and tenuous job security undermine the teaching profession\, compr
omising teaching quality and leading many to leave the profession or avoid
joining it in the first place (Falk\, 2023\; Martin\, 2018\; Wolf et al.\
 , 2015\; UNESCO et al.\, 2024).
