SUMMARY:Launch of the second G7 Global Objectives on Girls’ Education rep
 ort
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 15 February\, 14:00-15:30 (GMT)\nVirtual webinar\nREGI
STER HERE\n&nbsp\;\nA virtual roundtable discussion between UNESCO\, UNGEI
\, the Girls’ Education Challenge and the University of Cambridge to lau
nch the 2023 Progress Report on the Global Objectives on Girls’ Educatio
n.\nThe report measures progress made against two objectives on girls’ a
ccess to education and their learning. This event will unpack the findings
in the 2023 report and shed light on the urgent action that is needed to
achieve the Global Objectives on Girls' Education. The report\, which high
lights the challenges to achieving gender equality in and through educatio
n as well as pertinent data gaps\, underscores the scale of the task ahead
. Explore global data trends\, discuss the root causes of gender inequalit
y that are hindering progress\, and learn from best practices to advance g
ender equality in education.\nFeaturing:\n\n	Sharon Tao\, Education Direct
 or\, Girls’ Education Challenge\, FCDO\n	Antara Ganguli\, Director\, UNG
 EI\n	Manos Antoninis\, Director\, GEM Report\n	Pauline Rose\, Professor\,
 International Education\, University of Cambridge\n\nIn 2021\, the G7 head
s of state set and endorsed two global objectives:\n\n	40 million more gir
ls in school\; and\n	20 million more girls reading by age ten or the end o
f primary school in low and lower-middle income countries.\n\nThese object
ives come from the recognition that girls universally face systemic barrie
rs which intersect with poverty\, geography\, disability and minority stat
us that prevent their access to and benefiting from twelve years of qualit
y education. Yet\, education remains their most likely path to empowerment
. The two goals are derived from and aligned with global and national fram
 eworks for measuring progress on SDG 4.\n&nbsp\;
