SUMMARY:Kenyan Universities’ Action on Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:25 April\, 14:00-15:30 BST\nChair: Charlotte Nussey\nPresenters
 : Jackline Nyerere\, John Muchiri\, Anakalo Shitandi\nDiscussant: TBC\nThi
s webinar will feature discussions on the Participatory Action Research (P
AR) activities undertaken by three Climate-U universities in Kenya\, Kenya
tta University (KU)\, Kisii University (KSU) and Kenya Methodist Universit
y (KeMU). Researchers from the three participating universities in Kenya w
ill reflect on the PAR process of implementing Climate-U in their institut
ions as well as share findings on qualitative case studies in the three un
iversities.\nPresentations on PAR processes and activities will centre on
problem inquiry\, framing and designing interventions to strengthen the un
iversity’s climate action. Specifically\, there will be reflections on m
ainstreaming climate change into the three universities’ curricula and d
eveloping new pedagogies for delivering the revised courses. Discussions o
n the interventions will also focus on the Climate-U greening activities c
urrently piloted in the three universities among them the establishment of
Green Education Hub at KU\, the low carbon and renewable energy efforts a
t KSU\, and afforestation and waste management practices at KeMU.\nThe pre
senters will explore how the three universities use their tripartite teach
ing\, research and community service roles to engage in climate action. KU
’s qualitative case study covers the extent of climate change content co
verage in the university's curricula and campus greening activities\, as w
ell as the opportunities and challenges in the university's involvement in
climate action. KSU’s qualitative study addresses carbon literacy among
smallholder farmers in the immediate community\, while KeMU’s study foc
uses on documenting indigenous knowledge of the Ameru ethnic community on
climate action.\nFollowing the presentation and invited response\, there w
ill be an open discussion and debate with the webinar participants.\nThis
event is open to all those with an interest in the issues under discussion
. The event is free to attend\, but registration on Eventbrite is required
