SUMMARY:Improving Learning at Scale: Instructional Support for Effective La
 rge-Scale Reading Interventions
DESCRIPTION:25 May 2022\, 1:00-2:45 pm BST\nOnline only\nLearning outcomes
are low and instructional improvements are needed in many classrooms in lo
w- and middle-income countries (LMICs). These shortcomings are particularl
y concerning given the substantial learning loss due to COVID-19\, from wh
ich many education systems are suffering.\nThe Learning at Scale Study has
been designed to investigate factors contributing to successful improveme
nts in foundational learning outcomes in eight of the most effective large
-scale early grade education programs in LMICs.\nThe study explores three
overarching research questions\, focused on understanding the components o
 f instructional practices\, instructional supports\, and system supports t
hat lead to effective instruction and improved learning outcomes. Each of
these components is summarized in a series of short user-friendly briefs.\
nThis event will explore the findings from the second brief which addresse
s the research question:\nWhat methods of training and support lead to tea
chers adopting effective classroom practices in successful\, large-scale l
iteracy programs?\nDuring the event\, you will hear from the authors of th
e study\, as well as from practitioners from three of the eight featured p
rograms that are successfully improving reading outcomes at scale. Feature
d programs will include the Lecture Pour Tous program in Senegal\, the Nor
thern Education Initiative (NEI) Plus program in Nigeria\, and the Scaling
-up Early Reading Intervention (SERI) program in India.\nConfirmed speaker
 s include:\nDr Jennifer Swift-Morgan\, Chemonics (Lecture Pour Tous)\nLydi
a Onuoha\, Creative Associates (NEI Plus)\nMeenal Sarda\, Room to Read (SE
 RI)\nJessica Mejía\, RTI International\nDr Matthew Jukes\, RTI Internatio
nal\n*******************\nPlease note: You can access the Instructional Su
pports Brief and Learning at Scale interim findings report here. \nWe woul
d very much appreciate your views on the Brief. Doing so will only take yo
u 2-3 minutes by clicking on this link. \n The Learning at Scale Study
is being led by RTI International and is part of the Center for Global De
 velopment (CGD) education research consortium\, funded by the Bill &amp\;
Melinda Gates Foundation.\nThis event is being coordinated by Better Purpo
se who may contact you directly with further details about the event.
