  event to hear Kuyok Abol Kuyok and Tristan McCowan explore the work of So
 uth Sudanese universities towards revitalising higher education within the
 ir conflict-affected context.\nREGISTER HERE\nAfter gaining independence i
 n 2011\, South Sudan has been ravaged by civil war\, and the ongoing secur
 ity crisis has hampered the development of infrastructure and public servi
 ces. In spite of these challenges\, the higher education system has grown 
 rapidly\, with five public and 13 private universities now operating. Whil
 e the flagship University of Juba has gone from strength to strength\, a n
 umber of smaller private universities have emerged with commercial motivat
 ion and dubious levels of quality.\nThis seminar explores the range of wor
 k of South Sudanese universities across teaching\, research and community 
 engagement\, particularly in relation to thematic areas associated with th
 e 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, the balance between them and g
 aps in provision.\nThe speakers will discuss how security risks and lack 
 of resources hamper the day-to-day functioning of institutions and their a
 bility to maximise their potential – yet also how these institutions are
  making significant contributions in key areas of basic education\, health
  and peace-building.\nThis event will be particularly useful for researche
 rs\, academics and students.\nPlease note this is a hybrid event and can b
 e joined either in-person or online.\n&nbsp\;
