  seminars on theme of Education and Palestine in the School of Education.\
 nThis is the second of three events on the theme of 'Education and Palesti
 ne'. Professor Williamson\, Professor Kiwan and Professor Gordon will focu
 s on questions of academic freedom and knowledge production\, the reconstr
 uction of education in Palestine\, and human rights law as it relates to e
 ducation in Israel and Palestine. \nSpeakers\n\n	Professor Bill Williamso
 n is a sociologist and Emeritus Professor of Continuing Education at Durha
 m University\n	Professor Dina Kiwan is a Professor in Comparative Educatio
 n at University of Birmingham\n	Professor Neve Gordon is Professor of Huma
 n Rights Law at Queen Mary University of London and the Vice President of 
 the British Society for Middle East Studies\n\nThe event is open to all wh
 o register. It is a space to critically explore pressing issues for educat
 ion in Palestine - as such\, attendees need to be aware that sensitive and
  challenging issues will be discussed.\nAs is routine for University event
 s\, this will be a safe and respectful space for all in attendance\, regar
 dless of background\, to hear from expert speakers and to pose appropriate
  questions.\nBiographies\nProfessor Bill Williamson is a sociologist and E
 meritus Professor of Continuing Education at Durham University. His academ
 ic work and publications crossed several boundaries: the sociology of educ
 ation\, comparative education\, social and contemporary history and the th
 eory and practice of lifelong learning. His most recent work has focused o
 n educational aspects of the Israel-Palestine conflict. His forthcoming bo
 ok Lifeworlds and Change in Palestinian Education is published by Routledg
 e. In retirement\, Bill works voluntarily as a mentor with the Durham Pale
 stine Educational Trust to support postgraduate students from Palestine st
 udying in Durham University.\nProfessor Dina Kiwan is a Professor in Compa
 rative Education at University of Birmingham. Her interests centre around 
 sociological and politico-philosophical examinations of inclusive citizens
 hip through the lens of education policy\, naturalisation policy and migra
 tion policy\, in particular in the context of pluralist / multicultural so
 cieties\, and also societies in conflict. She is also an appointed member 
 of the government's Migration Advisory Committee (MAC). Her book Academic 
 Freedom and the Production of Knowledge was recently published by Cambridg
 e University Press. \nProfessor Neve Gordon is Professor of Human Rights 
 Law at Queen Mary University of London and the Vice President of the Briti
 sh Society for Middle East Studies. His research focuses on international
  humanitarian law\, human rights\, the ethics of violence\, and the Israel
 i-Palestinian conflict. His books include Israel's Occupation\, The Human 
 Right to Dominate (co-authored with Nicola Perugini)\, and Human Shields: 
 A History of People in the Line of Fire (also co-authored with Perugini). 
 His articles have appeared in The Guardian\, The Los Angeles Times\, The W
 ashington Post\, The Chicago Tribune\, Al Jazeera\, The Chronicle of Highe
 r Education\, and The London Review of Books.\nThis event is open to the 
 public\, staff and students. Registration is essential to receive the link
