SUMMARY:Decolonising conflict conversations: Addressing epistemic injustice
  in education research and practice
DESCRIPTION:6 February 2024\, 13:00-14:00 GMT\nSpeaker: Dr Laila Kadiwal\,
UCL Institute of Education\nAbout the seminar:\nRecent global events have
highlighted the urgent need for ethical approaches during conflict in educ
ation research and practice. This seminar explores the innovative methods
used by critical Muslim feminist social movements in India to generate tra
nsformative knowledge through non-formal educational pedagogies to mitigat
e the risk of genocide. The seminar also considers how these insights can
be applied to decolonise knowledge production about conflict in the field
of education and international development in the Global North.\nRegister
to join this seminar in person or online here.\n About the seminar series
:\nThis joint REAL Centre/Centre for Lebanese Studies seminar series aims
to tackle multiple and interrelated injustices in the Global South\, which
manifest in war and genocide\, and their interconnection with environment
al degradation and resource conflict. Education is a critical site for scr
utinising and deconstructing systemic injustice. This seminar series pays
particular attention to the way in which education is affected\, both as p
otential cause\, consequence and maintainer of injustices\, as well as opp
ortunities education offers for eradicating inequities.\nThe series examin
es the underlying historical and political processes that drive and perpet
uate these injustices. Particular attention is paid to the ways in which s
tates in the Global North cause\, and exacerbate\, such injustices\, perpe
tuating the colonial legacy in diverse contexts of the Global South. This
series explores how the unfolding genocide and long-term occupation of Pal
estine highlight the inadequacy of the global system in addressing these a
trocities. It explores how the global system propped up the system of Apar
theid in South Africa and how global support for human rights was key to b
ringing out an end to the system in 1994. Likewise\, the intensifying turm
oil in Sudan serves as a poignant illustration of the injustices perpetuat
ed within an inequitable global system. Deploying an intersectional lens a
cross diverse contexts\, this seminar series animates discussion about key
education challenges\, including violence against girls and women\, racis
m\, colonialism\, displacement\, and advocates for ethical and committed s
cholarship.\n&nbsp\;\nMore about the series and how to register for all of
  the seminars.\n&nbsp\;
